Due to continued uncertainties about travel and operations, we regretfully announce that the Amgen Scholars Program at UCLA will not be accepting applications for summer 2021. We look forward to launching a new application cycle in Fall 2021 to select a new cohort of students in Summer 2022.

BEFORE YOU APPLY: Check to see if you can participate in the entire program from Sunday, June 21 – Friday, August 28, 2020All participants must attend the program for its entire duration.

Review the program’s eligibility requirements. No exceptions are made with regards to the basic eligibility requirements.

Applicants must be:

  • U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents
  • Undergraduates enrolled in four-year colleges and universities in the U.S., Puerto Rico and other U.S. Territories.
  • Sophomores (with 4 quarters or 3 semesters of college experience), Juniors and non-graduating Seniors (who are returning in the fall to continue their undergraduate experience).
  • Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or above.
  • Interested in pursuing a Ph.D. or joint M.D./Ph.D.


To be considered for the program, an applicant must complete ALL of the application components listed below. The application components do not have to be completed in the order they are listed, but we do encourage you to contact your recommender as soon as possible about the letter of recommendation.

1. Submit an Online SPUR Application 

  • Make sure to choose Amgen Scholars in the Summer Programs at UCLA pull-down menu.

2. Complete the Supporting Materials (listed below) and submit them on the UCLA Amgen Scholars Supporting Materials Submission web site

Before you submit your supporting materials: 

  • Make sure to abide by the character limits for each question.
  • Save materials in the following format, GarciaEPersonalStatement.pdf. File names must NOT contain: spaces, hyphens, slashes, commas or other non-alphanumeric characters. Please note: The current system cannot support the upload of .docx files. Please save your documents as .doc or .pdf files.
  • Make sure your contact information and the supporting materials are correct prior to submission. Once you click “Submit Application,” you will not be able to access this site again.

3. Have a faculty member submit a Letter of Recommendation and Letter of Recommendation Waiver Form

4. Complete the Secondary Application Survey

  • This will be sent to you after other documents are submitted.
