Clinical Research in Pediatric Epilepsy
The UCLA Infantile Spasms Program is an interdisciplinary clinical and research endeavor that seeks to identify biomarkers and novel therapies for the most common epilepsy syndrome in the first year of life (Infantile Spasms, a.k.a. Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome).
We are seeking highly motivated and academically accomplished undergraduates to assist with medical records-based data collection and analysis thereof. Students will gain exposure to clinical research methods, clinical trials, and clinical care (shadowing).
Time commitment: 6+ hours/week, ideally 1-2 years

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a pre-med, second- or third-year undergraduate, life-sciences major (neuroscience, psychobiology, or physiological sciences preferred), who endeavors to become a clinician-scientist. Prior research experience is not required, but completion of coursework in statistics, advanced mathematics, and computer programming is a plus. Specific experience with python and MATLAB is advantageous. Exemplary communication skills are essential.
