Students conducting clinical research must receive clearance through the Direct Referral Program before conducting their research activities.

The Direct Referral Program is for individuals who are personally invited to volunteer/assist for a UCLA Health and/or David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM) faculty or staff for clinical research and/or educational and academic experience. The Direct Referral Program is designed to expedite your application so you may be processed as quickly as possible. If you wish to volunteer at UCLA Health, but have not been invited by a staff member, you must either identify a supervisor for your volunteer assignment before proceeding, or join one of the other volunteer programs listed on our website.

SRP-99 students accessing any of the following are required to receive clearance:

  • Identifiable data or clinical data (i.e. patient information, test subject information, etc.)
  • Human test subjects (study participants) or patients
  • Clinical areas: clinics, hospitals, patient care areas

Visit the Direct Referral Program website for more information.
