Join us for a day of learning research skills, community-building, and networking through speakers, workshops, and socials.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • A morning of valuable perspectives from community leaders in AAPI mental health, including Dr. Helen Hsu, current lecturer at Stanford University and president of the Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA), and Dr. Benjamin Woo, Associate Clinical Professor at DGSOM who has been featured on 100+ radio shows speaking about mental health topics on the only Cantonese radio station in Los Angeles, KMRB AM1430. Also featuring Dr. Rona Hu, Medical Director of the Acute Psychiatric Inpatient Unit at Stanford Hospital and creative leader in API intergenerational communication who has created theatrical vignettes to start necessary conversations.
  • A choice of two action-oriented and interactive workshops in the afternoon, ranging from exploring AAPI mental health stigma to learning about the intricacies of culturally responsible research
  • An opportunity to connect with a number of local organizations in advocacy, research, and community service over lunch (lunch will be provided!).
  • Asia Jackson, and African-American Filipina actress who created the #MangandangMorenx movement to challenge colorism and advocate against the harmful emotional and mental impacts of traditional beauty standards
  • A captivating story from Masumi Umezaki, who has previously spoken at the David Geffen School of Medicine about barriers to LGBTQIA care access coming from an Asian cultural heritage.
