Ivan Chavez

My name is Ivan Chavez and I’m a 4th year MIMG major. My research focuses on understanding the sensory behavior of parasitic nematodes. I’m particularly interested in how these parasites interact with bacteria and the neural circuitry that mediates this behavior. The MARC program has been instrumental in developing my research skills and preparing me to enter graduate school to obtain a PhD. With the support of the MARC program, I’ve attended national conferences to present my research, strengthened my ability to engage scientific literature, and built a diverse and strong network of scientists, mentors, and friends. Most importantly, the program has provided me a community of peers who’ve continually supported and motivated me both professionally and personally.
