I am a fourth-year MIMG major with a minor in Biomedical Research and I am currently in Dr. Oliver Fregoso’s lab. In the Fregoso lab I am trying to identify the conserved functions of an HIV protein by comparing the functions of this HIV protein to a similar protein found in the SIV that infects African green monkeys. Even though COVID has made this past year my most difficult year at UCLA, I was able to move forward since I stayed in contact with my friends over Zoom and Discord. I also started playing Dungeons and Dragons again with some friends over Discord, which was a much-needed break due to the craziness that was 2020. I will be graduating from UCLA in the spring of 2021 and in the fall of 2021, I will be attending Caltech for graduate school in order to obtain my Ph.D.  While I am not sure what lab I will join at Caltech, I plan to do research in the field of molecular biology.
