The Louis Stokes California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) is an NSF-funded program shared across nine UC campuses (Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, San Diego, Riverside, and Merced). Its goal is to enhance diversity in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields at the PhD and faculty level by providing financial and professional development support to students from groups underrepresented in these fields.

UCLA’s CAMP program works in collaboration with the following programs, lending additional resources in support of enhancing student success: URC-Sciences Summer Program, CARE Fellows & Scholars, HHMI Pathways , UC LEADS, and MARC.

Program Requirements

  • Participation in the URC-Sciences Summer Program curriculum: 10 weeks or 12 weeks, part-time or full-time, respectively. The curriculum includes seminars, workshops and active learning opportunities to promote student research development and career success.
  • Enrolling in and passing ResPrc194C – Mastering the Oral Presentation of your Research 2u; an alternative or additional course for advanced scholars: ResPrc194B – Writing Research Proposals and Graduate Applications
  • Participation in the annual UC-wide CAMP symposium during the winter quarter; requires the preparation and submission of a research abstract in the fall quarter.
  • Quarterly 1:1 meetings with the UCLA CAMP Director, to review research progress, program progress, and career development
  • Participation in peer-mentoring meetings: once as an incoming CAMP scholar, and once as an outgoing CAMP Scholar
  • Participation in program surveys as requested by UCLA, the NSF, and affiliated parties.
